MercuryBet (Mercury International) is a sportsbook, casino and lottery operator that has been active in Sierra Leone since 2013, with a network of physical outlets alongside its online platform at mercurybet.com. This review looks at what matters to a Sierra Leonean bettor specifically.
What Is MercuryBet and What Does It Offer in Sierra Leone?
MercuryBet is one of the longer-established operators in Sierra Leone, running sports betting, casino games and a 5/90-style lottery product (per the operator’s own site) alongside a nationwide network of physical betting points — a different structure to the purely online international brands also reviewed on this page. Its online platform mirrors the same betting slips available in-shop. We could not independently confirm the specific licence covering its online operation; check the licence detail on its own site before depositing.
Payment Methods for Sierra Leonean Players
Orange Money and Afrimoney are the two mobile money services most Sierra Leonean bettors already use. We could not verify from MercuryBet’s own site which specific wallets it accepts for online deposits and withdrawals — its retail network means cash deposit at a physical outlet is also realistically an option for many bettors, but confirm current online payment methods directly in your account before assuming either mobile money service is supported.
Account Verification on MercuryBet
Expect the standard KYC step before your first online withdrawal — typically a national ID or passport plus proof of address — though bettors who registered in person at a physical outlet may find this process differs. We found no published, Sierra Leone-specific processing times; budget a few business days for an online account.
MercuryBet Bonuses and Promotions
MercuryBet advertises a welcome bonus and periodic promotions (per the operator’s own site), but we could not verify the exact current percentage, cap or wagering terms for Sierra Leone-registered accounts from an independent source. Check the live terms inside your account or at a retail outlet before counting on a specific figure.
Is MercuryBet Legal in Sierra Leone? Licensing and Tax
Sierra Leone’s gambling framework predates the internet: the Lotteries Act (1960) and older gaming statutes are administered by a mix of bodies, including the Sierra Leone State Lottery Company, with no single dedicated regulator for online betting — a gap confirmed by Sierra Leone’s National Revenue Authority. The Finance Act 2024 introduced a betting-related excise tax, though secondary sources disagree on whether it applies to turnover or gross gaming revenue — see our Regulation & Taxation hub for the latest confirmed detail. MercuryBet’s long-standing retail presence doesn’t by itself confirm a specific online betting licence; this uncertainty applies to every operator taking bets from Sierra Leone.
Mobile App and User Experience on MercuryBet
MercuryBet’s site is mobile-responsive, and the operator advertises a dedicated betting app. We could not independently verify the app’s current rating, download count or specific feature set for Sierra Leone-registered accounts from sources outside the operator’s own store listing — check current reviews on the relevant app store before relying on marketing copy alone.
Customer Support on MercuryBet
MercuryBet lists the usual live chat, email and typically a phone or WhatsApp line as support channels. We could not independently verify response times or support-language coverage for Sierra Leone customers specifically — test the live chat with a simple question before you need it for something urgent like a stuck withdrawal.
MercuryBet Sierra Leone Review: Final Verdict
MercuryBet suits bettors who value a long-established, locally rooted operator with a physical presence alongside its online platform, rather than the broader catalogues of the purely international brands on this page — though every bonus figure and payment claim should still be confirmed directly before you rely on it.
